Running costs
The purchase price is only part of the cost. SHTM 01-05 notes that sterilisers capable of Type B or Type S cycles are “relatively more expensive to purchase and maintain” (SHTM 01-05, table 4.1), and WHTM 01-05 says Type B benchtop sterilisers need additional maintenance and an in-depth validation regime, including regular steam penetration and air testing (WHTM 01-05, paragraph 4.5). Ask suppliers to include installation, validation and servicing in their quotes.
